Kurt was more than a leader behind the camera. He was the calm voice during breaking news, the steady hand during stressful live broadcasts, and the person countless coworkers leaned on during both professional and personal challenges. Those who worked beside him describe him as patient, compassionate, humble, and deeply devoted to helping others succeed.
For many at KUTV, Kurt wasn’t simply part of the newsroom — he was the heart of it.
Throughout his career, Kurt built an environment centered on respect, encouragement, and teamwork. Young photographers, editors, and reporters often found themselves learning not just technical skills from him, but lessons about kindness, patience, and professionalism. He believed leadership was about lifting people up, and he quietly made everyone around him better.
One story shared by colleagues during the COVID-19 pandemic perfectly reflects the kind of man Kurt was. While a sick coworker prepared to anchor from home during uncertain times, Kurt personally delivered broadcasting equipment, carefully organizing every detail on the porch so it could easily be assembled. It wasn’t done for praise or recognition — it was simply who he was: thoughtful, dependable, and caring.
Outside the newsroom, Kurt loved adventure, Utah’s breathtaking red rock landscapes, and Jeep trips that brought him peace and joy. Friends remember his humor, warmth, and loyalty, as well as the pride he carried for his roots and lifelong friendships.
