The shooting, which occurred outside the Village Pointe apartment complex on Roscoe Blvd. in Minneapolis, has sparked outrage, with Porter’s loved ones disputing the official account of the incident.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the ICE agent was alerted to gunshots coming from the area, prompting him to retrieve his service firearm. The agent claimed to have identified himself as law enforcement before ordering Porter to drop his rifle after Porter allegedly pointed and fired the weapon at him. A deadly exchange of gunfire ensued, leaving Porter dead and the agent unharmed.
However, Porter’s family strongly refutes this version of events. They maintain that Keith was simply celebrating the New Year by firing a rifle into the air and did not pose a threat. Neighbors have also reported not hearing any identification from the agent before the shooting.
“Keith was a hard-working man, a father, brother, and friend with one of the purest souls,” wrote his friend, Lan Smith, in a now-deleted GoFundMe post, alleging that a false narrative was being used to tarnish Porter’s image.
