Pierce County, WA – A bicyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck on State Route 7 in Pierce County on Wednesday, January 7. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) responded to the scene of the accident, which occurred at the intersection of SR 7 and 52nd Avenue E.
The collision took place around midday, but specific details on how the accident unfolded remain unclear. WSP confirmed that the male bicyclist was riding on SR 7 when he was hit by a truck. Authorities have not released the directions in which the truck or the cyclist were traveling at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured man to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The truck driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Both the truck driver’s and the bicyclist’s identities have not been disclosed.
To assist in the investigation, both directions of SR 7 were briefly shut down at the scene. While northbound lanes were soon reopened, southbound traffic was diverted at Weiler Road for some time. As of now, the WSP continues to investigate the incident.
