Tragic Highway 145 Crash Claims Woman’s Life in Madera County
Madera County, CA – A tragic crash on Sunday night has claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman and left two others hospitalized after a violent collision on Highway 145. The accident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. on December 4, 2025, when a 22-year-old woman driving a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta attempted to make an illegal U-turn from the right shoulder, pulling directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was attempting to make the U-turn when she collided with a 2022 Volkswagen Taos driven by a 62-year-old man. The Taos also had a 77-year-old woman as a passenger at the time of the crash. Both vehicles sustained severe damage, and the impact of the crash caused significant injuries to all involved.
The two drivers and the elderly passenger were immediately transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, the 77-year-old female passenger later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Her identity has not been publicly released, and her passing has left her family and loved ones grieving. The 62-year-old man and the 22-year-old woman remain in the hospital in stable condition.
The California Highway Patrol has confirmed that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine what factors led to the driver’s decision to make a U-turn on a busy highway.
