Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Odessa Results from Failure to Yield, Police Investigating Incident
According to the Odessa Police Department, officers responded at approximately 7:50 a.m. to reports of a major collision involving a motorcycle. The accident occurred at the intersection of Andrews Highway and 91st Street. Investigators revealed that the motorcyclist, later identified as 29-year-old Martinez De Jesus, was traveling northbound on Andrews Highway when the crash occurred. At the same time, a black GMC pickup truck, driven by 35-year-old Jose Ybarra, was heading westbound on 91st Street. Police reports stated that Ybarra failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, causing the truck to enter the intersection and collide with the motorcycle. The impact was severe, and De Jesus was immediately thrown from his bike.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision, providing medical assistance to both parties. De Jesus sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Ybarra, the driver of the pickup truck, was not seriously injured in the crash but was visibly shaken. Authorities confirmed that alcohol or drugs were not factors in the accident.
