FALLEN HERO: Massachusetts Trooper Kevin Trainor Dies After Responding to Wrong-Way Driver Call
The Massachusetts community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of State Trooper Kevin Trainor, a dedicated young officer who tragically lost his life following a devastating wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield during the early morning hours of May 6.
According to officials, Trooper Trainor, 30, had just completed his overnight shift and was on his way home around 2:04 a.m. when he courageously responded to an emergency 911 report involving a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 1. Moments later, tragedy struck when a Jeep driven by Hernan Marrero collided head-on with Trainor’s cruiser in a violent crash that shocked the entire state.
Despite emergency responders rushing him to Massachusetts General Hospital, Trooper Trainor sadly succumbed to his injuries. Marrero was pronounced dead at the scene. A graduate of the Massachusetts State Police 88th Recruit Training Troop in 2023, he previously served as a corrections officer in Essex County before fulfilling his dream of becoming a state trooper.
During his service, he worked as a field training officer and played an important role mentoring younger troopers within Troop A’s Community Action Team. Fellow officers described him as hardworking, dependable, and deeply committed to protecting others.
