A Devastating Crash That Took a Young Life Too Soon
The community of Wilson County is mourning after a heartbreaking head-on crash on Bridgersville Road near Elm City claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on April 27 at about 3:48 p.m. when a 2022 Toyota Corolla crossed left of center and collided head-on with a 2024 Toyota Sequoia.
Inside the Corolla were a father and two children. Tragically, the 6-year-old boy was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene despite emergency response efforts.
Serious Injuries and Criminal Charges Filed
The driver of the Corolla, identified as Jonathan M. Hardison, 31, of Elm City, and his 7-year-old daughter were both airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the child who died was not properly restrained at the time of the crash. Following the investigation, Hardison was charged with driving while impaired, driving left of center, and failure to properly restrain a child passenger.
The driver of the other vehicle and passengers inside were not injured.
Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as part of an ongoing case.

The young victim, identified as Maverick in a GoFundMe campaign, is remembered as a bright child whose life ended far too soon. His sister, Heidi Hardison, remains hospitalized as the family faces an overwhelming emotional and physical recovery process.
