The Albemarle community is reeling after a tragic shooting Wednesday evening that claimed the life of a teenager near South Bell Avenue and Inger Street. The incident has left residents shaken and grieving as authorities continue an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Tyshawn Ford.
According to the Albemarle Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 6:08 p.m. on January 14 after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, first responders found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel rendered immediate aid at the scene, but despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Investigators have indicated that the shooting does not appear to be random. Preliminary findings suggest that the individuals involved were known to one another, pointing to a targeted incident rather than a threat to the general public. Police have identified a suspect and are actively pursuing leads, though specific details have not yet been released. “This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time,” authorities stated.
The victim’s identity was initially withheld pending notification of next of kin. As the investigation progresses, police have reassured residents that there is no ongoing danger to the community. A visible law enforcement presence remained in the neighborhood Wednesday night as detectives secured the scene and collected evidence.
