Life Cut Short: Merritt Island Dancer Lexis “Lexi” Jordan Killed in Tragic Cocoa Village Crash

A vibrant young life filled with promise was tragically cut short on January 2, when a pickup truck struck two pedestrians and crashed into the Cocoa Village Playhouse, killing Lexis Julia Jordan, 25, of Merritt Island. The devastating incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Brevard Avenue, just outside the historic theater, according to Cocoa police.

Authorities said a 2016 white Dodge Ram 1500, driven by a 64-year-old man, veered off the roadway, clipped the sidewalk, struck Jordan and a male companion, and then slammed into the playhouse building. Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical episode, though the investigation remains ongoing. No charges have been filed as traffic homicide detectives continue interviewing witnesses.

First responders found Jordan unresponsive at the scene. Bystanders immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The man who was walking with her declined medical treatment. The driver was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The Cocoa Village Playhouse was closed at the time of the crash. Managing Director Benjamin Cox, who was inside the building with the CEO, confirmed that no staff members were injured. “Our hearts go out to the victim and everyone involved,” Cox said in a statement.

Jordan, affectionately known as Lexi, was a 2019 graduate of Merritt Island High School and earned a dance degree from Point Park University in 2023. She had been pursuing a professional dance career in Chicago and performed with companies including Dance Colony + Artists Dance Company. Friends and family remember her for her radiant spirit, talent, and ability to inspire others through movement.
