Summerville, SC — A tragic shooting at a Sonic restaurant in Summerville has claimed the life of an 18-year-old employee, Kymani Baker of Ladson. The fatal incident occurred Friday morning around 9 a.m. at the 9900 block of Dorchester Road, where Baker was working at the drive-in eatery.
Authorities said they were called to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire. Despite attempts by a nearby Border Patrol agent to offer assistance, Baker was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by Dorchester County Coroner Paul J. Brouthers at 9:35 a.m..
Summerville Police have launched an investigation into the shooting but have not made any arrests. Police are actively seeking public tips, particularly any information about individuals seen fleeing through nearby backyards or acting suspiciously.
Rumors circulating online about the Border Patrol agent’s involvement in the incident have been debunked by police. According to police spokesman Chris Hirsch, the agent only heard the gunshot and attempted to help Baker but was not connected to the crime.
