LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Authorities have confirmed that a fatal shooting in the Westgate area of Lakewood on January 7, 2026, was ruled a suicide. The tragic incident has left the community in mourning as law enforcement provides more details surrounding the woman’s death.

Officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and Lakewood Police Department responded to the scene late Wednesday evening after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered a woman with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
