Grief and Outrage in Minneapolis: Renee Nicole Good Killed in ICE Shooting

Renee was fatally shot by ICE agents on January 7, 2026, during an immigration enforcement operation in the Central neighborhood of south Minneapolis. Her death has sparked widespread grief, anger, and calls for justice, as residents demand answers to the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.

The incident occurred on Portland Avenue, between East 33rd and 34th Streets, as ICE agents carried out a large-scale operation. Federal authorities claim that Renee’s vehicle was either blocking the street or being used as a weapon against agents, prompting one officer to fire in self-defense. However, eyewitnesses and local authorities, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have strongly contested this version of events. After reviewing video footage, Frey called the justification “bullshit,” stating that the footage revealed reckless use of force, not an imminent threat.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara further emphasized that there was no indication that Renee was a target of the operation. City officials believe Renee was simply checking on neighbors when her life was tragically cut short by a bullet that struck her through the windshield. Her death has left the community stunned and searching for clarity.

Renee Nicole Good had recently made Minneapolis her home, relocating from places like Colorado Springs and Kansas City. Known for her creativity, she was an accomplished poet and writer who won an undergraduate poetry prize in 2020. She was also an avid guitar player and deeply committed to her children, pouring love and kindness into their lives.
