The Maryland State Police responded shortly after 5 p.m. to the scene of the pedestrian crash. According to the preliminary investigation, the Jeep was traveling northbound on MD 543 when Delanie, who was using the crosswalk, was struck by the vehicle. The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities have stated that alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Delanie, who was critically injured in the collision, was airlifted to a local trauma center by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.
