A Life Cut Short: The Pain of Losing a Friend
As a chaplain, I’ve experienced both the incredible highs and the overwhelming lows that come with walking beside others in life’s most pivotal moments. But nothing could have prepared me for the loss of my dear friend, Jace Hasskew. Just two days after witnessing a joyful and beautiful wedding in Indiana, Jace’s life ended suddenly, leaving those of us who loved him in a state of shock and sorrow.
A Celebration Turned Into Tragedy
Jace had been at the heart of a celebration of love and commitment. His wedding in Indiana had been filled with excitement, laughter, and a sense of anticipation for what the future would hold. Though our hearts were heavy with grief, the love and strength that radiated from Jace’s family was undeniable. They are every bit as wonderful as Jace was—warm, kind, and full of love. Their resilience and unity during such a difficult time were a testament to the deep bonds that held them together.
Being with them allowed me to reflect on the kind of person Jace was. His joy, laughter, and generosity were infectious. He had the rare gift of making everyone around him feel valued and loved. And as I sat with his family, sharing stories of his life and legacy, I realized just how deeply he had touched all of us.
