The news from the Aude department in France is heartbreaking: a tragic accident on Tuesday claimed the life of a French soldier near Alzonne. The soldiers, members of a marine rifle company, had just completed a live-fire training exercise—a mission successfully executed, a danger safely averted. The devastating irony is inescapable: after navigating the intense risks of simulated combat, one young life was suddenly and violently extinguished not by an enemy, but by a military vehicle veering off Departmental Road 33 (RD33).
